Asheville in 45 Minutes: Breweries, Biltmore & Eats

Asheville is 45 minutes from Lake Lure — close enough for a full day of Biltmore, breweries, and the River Arts District, then home to your coach by evening. Here is how to make the most of a day trip without ever moving your motorcoach.
The drive in
The drive from the north shore of Lake Lure to Asheville is an easy, scenic 45 minutes or so through the foothills. Leave the coach parked at Apple Valley Farm, take the tow vehicle, and you have a full day in the city ahead with none of the parking headaches of a big rig.
The Biltmore Estate
Top of most lists is the Biltmore — America’s largest home, set on a sprawling estate with gardens, a winery, and grounds you can easily spend half a day exploring. It is a uniquely Asheville experience and an easy centerpiece for your day trip.
Downtown and the River Arts District
Downtown Asheville is walkable and full of independent shops, galleries, and restaurants, with the historic architecture that gives the city its character. The nearby River Arts District is a cluster of working studios in former industrial buildings — a great stop if you like meeting makers and browsing original art.
The brewery scene
Asheville helped put American craft beer on the map and has the breweries to prove it. Whether you want a flagship taproom or a tiny neighborhood spot, you will not have to look hard. Pair it with the city’s strong food scene — from barbecue to farm-to-table — and you have an easy afternoon and evening.
A simple day-trip plan
Morning at the Biltmore, lunch downtown, an afternoon wandering the River Arts District, a brewery and dinner, then the scenic drive back to the quiet of your lot. Mountain city by day, mountain calm by night.
