Full Hookups 101: What 50-Amp Means for Class A Owners

"Full hookups" and "50-amp" get used a lot in the RV world, but if you are newer to Class A travel — or just want to make sure a site will run your coach comfortably — here is what those terms actually mean and why they matter.

What "full hookups" means

A full-hookup site provides all three utilities right at your pad: electric, water, and sewer. That means you can plug in, connect your fresh-water hose, and tie into the sewer connection without relying on your tanks or a dump station. For a longer stay, full hookups are the difference between truly settling in and constantly managing resources.

30-amp vs 50-amp

Electrical service usually comes in two flavors: 30-amp and 50-amp. The short version is that 50-amp service delivers significantly more power. A 50-amp connection can run two air conditioners, a residential fridge, a washer/dryer, and the rest of your coach’s systems at the same time without tripping breakers. Most modern Class A coaches are built for 50-amp, which is why a quality site should offer it.

Why 50-amp matters for a Class A

Class A motorcoaches are essentially apartments on wheels — and they draw power like one. On a hot summer afternoon you might want both roof-air units running while you cook and keep everything else going. On 30-amp you would be juggling loads; on 50-amp you simply live. If you value a no-compromise stay, 50-amp full hookups should be near the top of your checklist.

Water, sewer, and WiFi

Beyond power, look for good water pressure, a conveniently placed sewer connection, and reliable internet if you work on the road or just like to stream in the evening. Connectivity is easy to overlook until you need it.

What to look for in a site

A great Class A site combines a level, full-size concrete pad, 50-amp full hookups, solid WiFi, and enough room to set up outdoor living. Bonus points for shade, a fire pit, and a view. Our site at Apple Valley Farm checks every box — 50-amp full hookups, WiFi, a long level pad, a private waterfall, a gazebo, and a lookout deck.
